Neri&Hu is the Shanghai practice founded in 2004 by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu. It works across architecture, interiors, products and graphics, with a studio drawn from many countries and a habit of moving between scales on the same project.
Their work is rooted in the question of how a contemporary Chinese architecture can be made without resorting to pastiche, and it tends to reach its conclusions through material and detail rather than gesture. Old buildings are kept and worked into new ones; timber, brick and leather are used for what they are.
For Poltrona Frau they drew Ren, a double-sided bookcase in solid wood and saddle leather that can stand in the middle of a room, named for the Chinese character for a person.
