Extrasoft sofa

Designed by Piero Lissoni in 2008, Extrasoft is a modular sofa that pairs a casual, relaxed character with a soft, yielding comfort, while still holding its own as a strong geometric anchor within a room. Its form takes inspiration from the Majlis, the traditional low, cushioned seating found across the Middle East for centuries as a gathering space for conversation and hospitality.

Reimagined as a contemporary seating system, Extrasoft translates that tradition into soft geometric blocks that combine into a low, undulating upholstered landscape, giving the sofa an almost abstract, sculptural presence. Every non-essential element has been stripped away, leaving cosy, generously proportioned seats with subtle, considered details and irregular contours that soften the overall composition.

These blocks can be arranged side by side in a wide range of configurations, allowing Extrasoft to adapt to almost any space, and the collection now extends to an outdoor version as well. More than a decade on, Extrasoft remains a modern classic, a piece that continues to build on the great history of Italian sofa design.
