Zanotta

Maggiolina lounge chair

"A Cinderella that turns into a Princess" — Aurelio Zanotta's phrase for the process that produced the Maggiolina lounge chair. It began as an inexpensive, demountable armchair designed by Marco Zanuso in the late 1940s for a competition held by MoMA in New York: a structure of curved steel tubing from which a burlap "bag" was hung, its pockets holding two plywood panels that supported the padded seat and back cushions.

In designing Maggiolina in 1947, Zanuso was experimenting with an entirely new construction system built for industrial production, abandoning the traditional idea of an armchair framed by hand.

This version comes in Viburno fabric with cowhide and black nickel satin feet.

W.710 x D.1050 x H.830.
