Living Divani
Sailor bookcase
Sailor is a bookcase that draws on the world of boating. Slender hexagonal steel uprights are tensioned between floor and ceiling like the mast and rigging of a yacht, holding a run of tapered shelves that read as a light, open framework rather than a solid piece of furniture. Designed by David Lopez Quincoces for Living Divani in 2019, it brings an airy rhythm to a wall of books and objects, and pairs with the more recent Sailor Float sideboard from the same family.
The system can be fixed floor to ceiling, up to 3.05 metres, or wall mounted to 2.5 metres, and composed from shelves of 75, 90, 120 and 150 cm in width. Closed storage units with push-to-open flap doors and a smoked glass internal shelf can be slotted into the 90 and 120 cm bays, giving a mix of open display and concealed storage in a single composition.
Materials and finishes
Uprights in 25 mm hexagonal-section steel, finished in matt clear lacquer or a brass-toned matt finish. Shelves are built on an extruded aluminium bar with veneered tops and solid timber ends, in Stone Oak with a matt black keel and ends, or bleached maple with Canaletto walnut ends. Storage units come in Stone Oak with a matt black interior, or Canaletto walnut throughout. Floor and ceiling plates are satin brass.
